What Are Bonding and Veneers?
Bonding and veneers both refresh the teeth people see when you smile. They simply get there differently. Bonding uses tooth-colored composite resin that Dr. Anvy Sartorius shapes and polishes by hand, usually in a single visit. It is a simple fix for small chips, gaps, and worn edges. Veneers are thin shells of porcelain, custom-made to cover the fronts of your teeth. They can change color, shape, and spacing all at once, and porcelain keeps its shine for years.
When You Might Consider Them
Bonding suits a chipped corner, a narrow gap between front teeth, a worn edge, or one tooth that sits a little shorter than its neighbors. Veneers make sense for bigger changes: deep staining that whitening cannot lift, several uneven teeth, or spacing you have wanted to close for years. Healthy teeth and gums come first, so we always begin with a thorough exam. Many of our Baywood Park and Morro Bay neighbors are surprised how small a change it takes.
What to Expect at Your Visit
Bonding usually takes one comfortable visit. We gently prepare the tooth, layer on the resin, sculpt it to match its neighbors, harden it with a special light, and polish it smooth. Often little or no numbing is needed. Veneers take three steps: a consultation to plan color and shape, a prep visit to smooth away a thin layer of enamel and take impressions, and a placement visit to bond them. In between, the premier dental labs we partner with craft your veneers.
Aftercare and How Long They Last
Care for bonded and veneered teeth like natural ones: brush twice a day, floss daily, and keep up with regular checkups. Skip chewing ice, pens, and fingernails, and ask about a nightguard if you grind at night. Bonding can pick up coffee and red wine stains over time, and though it may chip, repairs are usually quick. With good care, bonding often lasts several years, and porcelain veneers often last ten years or more.
Paying for Bonding and Veneers
Insurance often helps when bonding repairs a damaged tooth, while purely cosmetic treatment is usually out of pocket. Every plan is different, so our team will check your benefits and give you a clear picture of the cost before any work begins. Dental health with integrity means no surprises. If you do not have insurance, our in-house Bear Dental Membership savings plan can make care more affordable. Call Los Osos Family Dentistry at (805) 528-4144 to schedule a consultation.
